CHANGES IN LATITUDES, CHANGES IN ATTITUDES!

RV and I grew up in north Florida and when we said we were going to spend our summer in Florida our friends said how hot it was going to be...and then the bugs.  If you are close to our age you may remember those days before air conditioning - whether it was at home, school, shops or church.  We melted but we made it!
Love that Sunny, Hot and Humid Florida!
Thornton Creek Motorcoach Resort, 10 miles east of Punta Gorda, will be our home base for a couple of weeks while we explore southwest Florida.  We are east of I-75, an agricultural area known for producing citrus, produce, and railroad history...the area west is desirable waterfront, beach, upscale shopping, and prime real estate.

On Wednesday, July 6, we drove the Tamiami Trail (US 41) to spend a couple of days with family vacationing in Marathon, FL., known for fishing.

Our daughter Kristen and I celebrate our birthdays 2 days apart so we planned a girls' day shopping and enjoyed awesome spa time in Key West.

The rest of the family met us a little later for dinner and sunset and along with hundreds of visitors we celebrated the God's magnificent beauty at the end of another day and enjoyed the always-present street entertainers and food carts at Mallory Square.

In the heat of our Key West visit we realized we had an intermittent air conditioning problem with our Honda CR-V, also known as our RV tow car, so the next morning RV and I drove 2 hours north to Homestead, the nearest Honda dealer and had our AC problem resolved - the repair was covered by a Honda Safety Bulletin.  At any rate, not only do we recommend Largo Honda, but the Krispy Kreme Doughnut Shop across the street met ALL our expectations for breakfast.
The only consolation of spending all day getting repairs is the beautiful
drive on the Overseas Highway from Marathon to Homestead, FL
Not a healthy breakfast but who can resist
HOT Krispy Kreme Doughnuts?!
Our last evening in Marathon we took an enjoyable sunset boat trip to Island Fish Company to enjoy delicious fresh seafood and a perfect sunset, and as always it was sad to see our visit come to an end.  Thank you Harold and Kristen Burke and our 4 beautiful grandchildren for many happy times!

The next morning, my birthday, we enjoyed my birthday breakfast at DJ's Diner in Key Largo, on our way to Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, and spent a few hours with our youngest daughter and son-in-law, Chris and Lauren Millman, returning from a week cruise until we left them at the Fort Lauderdale Airport where they returned home to Atlanta.

We had a few hours to explore Fort Lauderdale before we drove through Alligator Alley to our coach in Punta Gorda/Arcadia.  It seems like a good idea to relax today and then continue our next Ol' Florida adventure!  A visit to the Keys seems to change your latitude and your attitude.
